For over two decades, the tenants of 500 Dawes Rd. endured unjustly unsafe living conditions that their landlord, Carolyn Krebs, consistently failed to fix — and now, "Toronto's worst landlord" is finally facing the consequences.
On Tuesday, May 27, Ryan Endoh, who spearheads the Dawes Road Tenants' Association, announced on X that "It's finally happened. They're locking up the owner of 500 Dawes Road."
In the social media thread, Endoh suggested that the City is also pursuing Krebs for the other Toronto properties she manages.

From what we have heard, the cummulative fines now total about half a million dollars and they City is intent on ramping things up at other properties owned by Carolyn Goodman (known also as "Carolyn Krebs", "Marian Linton", "Marian Nelson", and "Toronto's worst Slumlord"). pic.twitter.com/zaAlikpnkZ
Krebs, who goes by numerous aliases, including Carolyn Goodman, was reportedly sentenced in Provincial Offences Court for failing to comply with fire safety requirements at another building she owns, 608 Dawes Rd.
According to CP24, Krebs has been sentenced to 15 days in custody and fined $120,000, as well as a mandatory 25 percent victim fine surcharge.
Toronto Fire Services released a statement Tuesday evening saying that "outcome underscores the importance of property owners meeting their responsibilities under the Ontario Fire Code and helps reinforce the role these standards play in keeping residents and communities safe."
Krebs' ongoing property management issues had placed her in hot water, with more than 170 orders and violations accumulated over the years. It was so severe and unignorable that Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow had to intervene.
On May 4, Chow visited the tenants at the East York high-rise and pledged to crack down on the "slumlord" and even announced that the City of Toronto would provide long-awaited relief and repairs to the notoriously neglected building, and billed Krebs $200,000 for the work done.
Under the City's RentSafeTO program, 500 Dawes Rd. has a current building evaluation score of 40 per cent, which appears to be slowly improving with time. In December 2025, its evaluation score was a scant 34 per cent.
