8 Bryant Avenue Toronto

This reasonably priced Toronto house comes with cute cottage vibes

If Toronto real estate is known for one thing, it's definitely not being reasonable. From piles of dirt listed for millions to houses that can barely be considered a structure still asking more than the lumber they're worth, Toronto always has the audacity.

The average price of a house is still over $1 million and that's even with the sluggish market. Yes, things have gotten better but generally speaking they're not great.

That being said, if you look hard enough there are still some reasonable homes out there, like 8 Bryant Ave., that don't need a full gut reno or an exorcism to be livable.

The front entrance.

This two-bedroom, one bathroom detached house in the Danforth is listed for $899,000, which is below the neighbourhood average of $973,000. 8 Bryant Avenue Toronto

The kitchen.

The home sits on a sizeable 20-by-110-foot lot, and once inside, the first thing you notice is the light.

The living room.

Soaring cathedral ceilings in both the living room and kitchen make the space feel way bigger than you'd expect from the outside, while multiple windows pull in natural light from basically every angle.

The updated kitchen.

The kitchen is clearly the heart of the home here.

The dining nook.

It's oversized, surrounded by windows, and has more than enough room to be an eat-in space.

The walkout to the backyard from the kitchen.

There's also a walkout to the backyard, which means summer hosting is basically built in.

And speaking of the backyard — it's probably the cutest part of the home.8 Bryant Avenue Toronto

The backyard in the winter.

Fully fenced and landscaped, it's giving private retreat vibes, the kind of space where you can pretend you're at a cottage even if your neighbour is like… three feet away.

One of the bedrooms.

Inside, the finishes feel like the perfect mix of Scandinavian style meets mid-century modern.

The bathroom.

There are engineered oak hardwood floors throughout, a spacious bathroom with a deep soaker tub (plus a skylight, which feels borderline luxurious at this price point), and the kind of thoughtful upgrades that suggest someone actually planned this renovation rather than just flipping it as fast as possible.

The other bedroom.

According to the listing, hundreds of thousands have been spent on upgrades in the past three years — and, crucially, done to city code, which in Toronto is honestly half the battle.

"When the current owners purchased it, the home had electric heating and a poorly constructed rear addition. They have since completed a full renovation, including rebuilding the back addition, installing forced-air gas heating, and beautifully remodelling the interiors," realtor Catherine van der Oye told blogTO.

The basement.

There's also main-floor laundry, decent storage, and a finished lower level that gives you a bit of extra flex space.

The backyard in the summer and the parking pad.

Parking is off the laneway, but you might not even need it since the subway and groceries are about a five-minute walk away, and you're right by Dentonia Park.

The back of the house.

"It's such a unique and character-filled property. It really offers the perfect blend of city convenience with a charming, cottage-like feel," said van der Oye.

The listing increased its asking price to $999,000 after publication of this article.
