Former Toronto airport runway to transform into free drive-in theatre this week

Runway Reels is back at Toronto's YZD Hangar, and you can take in a cinematic experience under the stars during this two-night drive-in movie series at a former airport.

The former runway of the closed Downsview Airport will be transformed into an outdoor theatre this week, offering movie lovers a choice between the classic drive-in setup and lounge-style seating for a more laid-back experience.

This two-day series kicks off on Oct. 3 with a screening of Titanic (1997) on the big screen, taking audiences back almost three decades with this Academy Award-winning romantic drama. The event pivots genres on Oct. 4, with a screening of Lilo & Stitch (2025).

Both films dovetail with the themes of the ongoing Runway Rivers installation.

The feature films start at 6:00 p.m. each night. Although admission is free, you must register for the event on YZD's official website.

YZD Hangar is located at 34 Hanover Rd.
