Upcoming Toronto festival will have more than 250 varieties of tacos

There's a massive taco festival coming to Toronto this summer, and 45 different restaurants in Toronto are getting in on the fun.

Summertime in Toronto is to tacos as winter is to the Distillery District Winter Village, which is to say that it just wouldn't be the same without it, so it's only fitting that the summer should be flooded with a variety of taco-based events to celebrate.

Perhaps the biggest of the entire season is Taco Fest, which is set to return to Toronto for its ninth year this August.

Whether you're a birria, pollo or carnitas fanatic, this festival has most certainly got you covered, featuring 45 Toronto restaurants that, combined, will be offering over 250 different varieties of the Mexican street food staple.

While the entire food lineup of the festival has yet to be revealed, the early teasers already suggest that it's going to be a muy caliente event, indeed, with local staples like Placos TacosBirria CatrinaBalam TorontoHoli Taco, and Chilliy Pepper all signed on already.

Though it is a festival made by and for taco lovers, you can even expect to find some non-taco eats mixed in, too. Crowd pleasers like Burger Drops and Booyah Ice Cream are also slated to be in the mix, if you're craving something other than tacos. But then again, why would you be?

In between eating sessions, you'll be able to watch live entertainment and partake in special programming, including live mariachi bands, DJs, salsa dancing lessons and "guac school."

The whole event culminates in the crowning of Toronto's best taco, as voted upon by festival attendees, so if you want to have your opinions heard, you'll want to make sure you're in attendance.

As an added cherry (or, should we say, lime) on top, after the Toronto festival concludes, it'll be moving on to Montreal and Los Angeles in September, so you can relive all the glory.

Tickets are on sale now, and they tend to sell out faster than you can say "carne asada," so if a weekend spent celebrating all things Mexican cuisine sounds like your idea of a good time, make sure to act fast.

Taco Fest Toronto takes place  Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug, 9 from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 250 Fort York Blvd. Tickets range from $17.50 to $27.50.
