Grizzly Bear, one of the main bands that has put Brooklyn on the map as the epicentre of a recent wave of modern emerging musical talent plays Massey Hall tonight. This band got their start ten years ago, and their sound is an eclectic one, ranging from traditional rock sounds to the electronic side of things, but with all elements evoking and building atmosphere. The Hear/Hear reading series celebrates National Literacy Month with a special event taking place tonight at Supermarket. This series is all about social awareness, and bringing together art and activism to make a difference locally. This evening will feature a variety of talent, including hip-hop artist Jaydahmann who also devotes his time to his community as a youth worker, plus filmmaker and poet Nayani Thiyagarajah, among others. There will also be guest poets who will have their first night on stage. This event is the first part of a "double bill" that continues this Saturday at The Creation Lab (see event link for more details).

BOOKS & LIT | Toronto Erotica Writers and Readers Meeting, September!
The Toronto Erotica Writers and Readers Group meets up tonight for a monthly gathering that is attended by both creators, and lovers of the 'erotic.' This monthly gathering promotes idea sharing and building ties within this specialized strand of TO's literary community. Tonight's event will focus on a discussion about getting one's work published, followed by a group writing exercise. The last hour of the meetup will be devoted to an open mic for reading, which will be streamed live, and recorded for a podcast as well.
Tequila Bookworm (512 Queen Street West) 7PM $5

COMEDY | Laughs at Slack's
Everyone needs a good laugh. While there are plenty of "mainstream" comedy nights here in TO at places such as The Comedy Bar, Yuk Yuk's, and others, Slack's on Church Street is serving a vital dose of "the best medicine" to TO's LGBT community with a free weekly open mic that will deliver the goods. Tonight's show will include Hoodo Hersi, Rhiannon Archer, Sara Hennessey, Kate Davis, and Kathleen Phillips.
