Radar: Lunchtime Illuminations with Joe Boyd, Doug Paisley, Of a Kind and Static Zine Kick Off NXNE

CULTURE | Lunchtime Illuminations with Joe Boyd
Luminato offers a special ninety-minute lunchtime program today (and everyday this week) called Lunchtime Illuminations, and these events feature an interview/discussion followed by a musical performance. Record producer Joe Boyd--who worked with many legendary American and UK acts such as Pink Floyd, The Incredible String Band, Fairport Convention and others--will chat with Richard Flohil, and this will be topped off by a musical performance curated by Boyd himself. There couldn't possibly be a better way to spend your lunch hour!

BOOKS & LIT | AUTHORS: Shree Ghatage, Grace O'Connell, and an additional author
The Authors at Harbourfront series resumes their regular Wednesday evening programming with readings from Shree Ghatage, Grace O'Connell, and another author to be announced (Roy-Bhattacharya, who was originally scheduled, has cancelled). Indo-Canadian author Shree Ghatage currently resides in Calgary, and received the Thomas Head Raddall Award for her 1987 short-story collection Awake When All the World is Asleep. She will read from her current novel, Thirst. Toronto author, Grace O'Connell will read from her debut novel, Magnified World.
Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay West) $10/FREE for members, students, & youth under 25

MUSIC | Doug Paisley at Cameron House
Toronto singer/songwriter Doug Paisley plays a special show at The Cameron House tonight. Paisley has found success South of the border for a while now, and gained considerable recognition touring with Bonnie Prince Billie as part of the duo Darkhand and Lamplight with projection artist Shary Boyle. Paisley's style can be described as 'alt country', and in a well-known interview a joke was made that this also refers to where the songwriter has been most successful: anywhere outside his own country! This is definitely an exaggeration, and catching tonight's show in such an intimate setting will be a real treat, as Paisley routinely plays festivals and much larger venues.

MUSIC | Of a Kind and Static Zine Kick Off NXNE
A special NXNE launch party put together by Static Zine, a local DIY 'cut and paste' arts and culture 'zine with a style all its own. An interesting aspect of this shindig is the venue: Of A Kind is a vintage clothing and vinyl record boutique, and this is a great excuse to check it out. Musical performers at this event include The Danks, Dead Ships, Mean Tangerine, and Indian Wars. You can pick up Static 'Zine's NXNE issue, and there will be other surprises, as well.
