BOOKS & LIT | Mansfield Press Spring Poetry Launch Party in Toronto!
Mansfield Press is a relatively young publisher, having been founded in 1999 by Denis De Klerck, but it's a no nonsense operation run with a great passion for both poetry and fiction. Tonight at the Monarch Tavern, four new poetry books will be introduced at this special Spring launch party: Nelson Ball's "In This Thin Rain", Alice Burdick's "Holler", Jaime Forsythe's "Sympathy Loophole", and "What's the Score?" by David W. McFadden. There will be readings by each poet, as well as drinks, snacks, and mingling! Get your literary schmooze on, tonight!

LECTURE | Kubrick In Nayman's Terms
Here's a chance to experience that film course you always wanted to take, but couldn't work into your schedule! TO film critic, Adam Nayman, launches his Media Mondays series at the Miles Nadal JCC tonight. This lecture series covers Stanley Kubrick's greatest films over a period of eight weeks, and is choc full of analysis and film clips. These lectures will give you insight into the historical and cultural context in which Kubrick's various works were released, how they were received at the time, and how they have influenced film makers around the globe.

MUSIC | White Denim, Hundred Visions, Sandman Viper Command
Austin psych-rockers, White Denim hit town tonight for a much-anticipated performance at The Horseshoe. There's been a strong buzz surrounding this band for a while, and their blend of psychedelia, jam rock, punk rock, and looping will definitely hit the spot! Also on the bill are fellow Austin rocks Hundred Visions, and locals Sandman Viper Command get things rolling... and rocking!

CULTURE | Close Encounters: The Next 500 Years
Tonight at The Gladstone Hotel, This Is Not A Reading Series and Ryerson Image Centre present the launch of "Close Encounters: The Next 500 Years". This is a document with thirty-four unique contributors from a variety of disciplines, each delivering work that is forward-looking, and imagining the future with the past in mind. Tonight's launch will include film by Rebecca Belmore, Maria Thereza Alves and Tracy Moffat, art by Kent Monkman, readings, and performance. A great event to check out for any TO culture maven!
