SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH

MUSIC | Make it Funky Legends of Funk DJ Czech BDay, Biodiesel, D Saddler & Farbsie
A big serving of "funk" is all over the musical menu at The Garrison tonight! It's a special lineup from the folks at Make It Funky, entitled "Legends Of Funk" - you know there will be some booty shakin' going down! DJ Czech leads the way, with Farbsie Funk spinning, plus very special guest Dave Saddler joining the fun (said to be "coming out of retirement" just for this event!). BioDiesel will also deliver a killer set of their special blend of d'n'b/house and breaks, featuring Clay Parnell from Brothers Past, and the super-human Johnny Rabb, known as the "world's fastest drummer"! No double-time drum loops for these guys, they are the real deal. This where you get your funk on tonight, people!
The Garrison (1197 Dundas Street West) 9PM $15

FUNDRAISER | The 4th Bday Breast Fest!
Music always steps up when there's a worthy cause on the table. Tonight, the 4th Breast Fest goes down at the ElMo, providing a great party for a great cause! Breast Fest's founder, Tyler Sammy, lost his mother to breast cancer in 2004, and for the last four years he has been combining his own birthday celebration with a fundraising show to gather funds for cancer research. Tonight's lineup of performers includes: Jef Kearns, Jhyve, Carmen Corcoz, Papa Dukes and the Truth, Handsome Tears, MC FÜBB, Young Architects, Sky Terminal, and others. All proceeds will go to the The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.
El Mocambo (464 Spadina Avenue) 6:30PM $20 ($15 w/ canned food donation)

ART | Creatures Creating: ART SHOW
Since opening in 2010, Creatures Creating has carved out a niche for itself by combining the 'shopping experience' with that of the gallery. An inventive inventory of artwork in so many formats can be found for sale, promoting and supporting the local scene in a good way. This relatively new Queen West gallery space and shop hosts an exhibit and performance tonight, called "HoiPolloi" featuring the work of several emerging artists. Adorning the walls of this space will be the work of Dave Eickmeier, Eric Euler, Caity Ferrar, Kat Gomboc, Lindsey Lickers, Marcel Mairovitz, Julia Salerno, Natascha Shena, and Kristen Vincec. Music will be provided by Ctrl+Alt+Dance, DnD, and Tuxedo Junction.
Creatures Creating (627 Queen Street West) 7PM

MUSIC | Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble
Musical performances in spaces and environments that happen outside of the traditional club, theatre or concert hall can be a real treat, and take the experience to another level. Wychwood Barns is just this kind of space - a converted TTC maintenance building which now functions as artist housing (run by Artscape), green space that is publicly owned, a multi-purpose marketplace, and more. This evening, enjoy a performance of modern Classical music by the Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble, including works by Richard Reed Parry, Rose Bolton, and Anton Bruckner. A lecture will at 7PM will get the evening rolling.
Wychwood Barns (601 Christie Street) 7PM $25

OTHER EVENTS ON OUR SATURDAY RADAR

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH

MUSIC | Crosswires #1: Julie Doiron, the Pinecones, Tres Bien Ensemble EP Release
This could be the beginning of a great musical adventure! Doc Pickles, one of the founders of the Wavelength music series seems to have been bitten by the bug again, and in the wake of WL going rarer, though sometimes bigger (now monthly, with two annual fests), he has started up Crosswires - a new Sunday PWYC music night. Tonight, Julie Doiron will inaugurate this new event as a special guest, along with The Pinecones, and Tres Bien Ensemble, who are releasing their EP at this show. DJ Acacia Christensen will also be in the house, along with trippy visuals from VJ General Chaos.
The Garrison (1197 Dundas Street West) 9PM PWYC

FILM | Silent Sundays presents WINGS (1927)
Silent Sundays has your afternoon movie viewing sorted! This series is an ongoing celebration of the Silent era, and continues this aft with director William A. Wellman's "Wings", an "aviation epic" that won the very first Best Picture winner. The film stars Clara Bow and Gary Cooper, two vintage 'heartthrobs' - so there's something for everyone! Sure you could watch this on DVD, but there is nothing like the big screen experience, complete with intermission, plus the film will be accompanied by William O'Meara on piano - true to the practices of this special era in film history! A definite must for film buffs.
Revue Cinema (400 Roncesvalles) 3:30PM $12 / $7 (seniors/children)

FUNDRAISER | Superhero Masquerade
A fun night which includes costumes, music and raising funds for the Toronto Humane Society - what a combination! Tonight's Superhero Masquerade at The Rivoli is an event where you are invited to dust off those Halloween costumes, especially those of the 'superhero' variety (you will be saving some animals in need of help, after all), and head out for some fun! Tonight's musical guests are: Treestar, This Life, River City, and a DJ from Haus of Whaps.
The Rivoli (332 Queen Street West) 8:30PM $7 / $5 with a costume

COMEDY | Comedy Above the Pub
This is a great chance to get out for some laughs and have all of your giggles, grunts and guffaws immortalized for all time! That's right - it's a live recording for the "Comedy Above the Pub" podcast, going down tonight at The Comedy Bar in the Cabaret Space! Todd Van Allen will be our host this evening, with guests Fraser Young and Ian MacIntyre. Should be a hoot!
The Comedy Bar (945 Bloor Street West) 9PM $5
