Radar: Elisabetta Fantone "Now And Then," Matisyahu, Natural Order, PWYC Weds at Rancho Relaxo, 2011 Grange Prize Launch Party

ART | ELISABETTA FANTONE 'NOW AND THEN' Opening Art Reception
Elisabetta Fantone's style seems to carry on Warhol's take on celebrity portraiture, and evokes the same "glimmer", but with her crosshairs aimed at contemporary celebrity culture, and icons such as George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, etc. She is definitely making a splash on the international art scene, with commissions from the Kardashian sisters and other notables causing her 'stock' to soar! Her exhibition, "Now And Then" is inspired by the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, and focusses on film icons from both the past and present. "Now And Then" has its launch and reception this evening at the Thompson Landry Gallery.

MUSIC | Matisyahu @ Phoenix
American Chasidic musical celeb, Matisyahu, plays tonight at The Phoenix! Known for his larger than life stage presence, beat boxing skills, and a unique blend of Judaism with reggae, and rock, Matisyahu has played some of North America's biggest festivals, and delivers a real show that fully engages the audience - no diva, navel-gazing vibes here! Trevor Hall opens the show.
Phoenix Concert Theatre (410 Sherbourne Street) 6:30PM $26.50

LITERATURE | Brian Francis' "Natural Order" book launch
The launch for Brian Francis' latest work, "Natural Order" happens tonight at The Gladstone Hotel. His latest novel deals with a female protagonist coming to grips with her past, and her son's sexual orientation. This reflective narrative looks backwards through an entire life, as the 80 year old narrator resides in a nursing home. Francis was the recipient of a Writers' Union of Canada's Emerging Author Award in 2000, and his last novel, "Fruit" was quite successful, and a Canada Reads finalist.

MUSIC | PWYC Weds w/ Christ vs Krishna, 20 Amp Soundchild, Man vs Fire
Another pwyc Wednesday is upon us! This great indie rock showcase always delivers the best up and coming talent out there. Tonight local band Man vs. Fire starts things off with their raw and rhythmic tunes. 20 Amp Soundchild will rock the middle slot, with a radio-ready sound, and a strong and infectious sense of melody - these guys are a band to keep your eyes and ears on for sure! The headliner tonight is Christ vs. Krishna: an eclectic local band with a variety of musical styles at the ready, and who bring a unique voice to all of them. This promises to be a very happening lineup!
