MUSIC | THE RESIDENTS @ THE OPERA HOUSE
Perhaps one of the most enigmatic bands in the history of Rock, The Residents hit town tonight. This group has been at it in one form or another since 1972, and have operated more or less 'anonymously': always mysteriously costumed in an attempt to conceal the band members' indentities. Their music is also beyond 'conventional', and has always been on the cutting edge, as has their ongoing and trailblazing relationship with emerging technologies, and other forms of media outside the norms of the music industry. For fans and the 'curious' alike, this is a show not to be missed.
The Opera House (735 Queen Street East) 8PM $30

CULTURE | DaNews TV Launch Party
This is one of those events where the 'virtual' and 'real' world party together! Come and check out the official launch of the DaNews.tv website! Tonight at Revival, local comedian Kevin Herod hosts this bash to give a kickstart to what is being called "[y]our source for Canadian Hip Hop". There will be performances by Gangis Khan, Bigg Page, JJ Money, and more, plus some DJs, including DJ Don Juan.
Revival (783 College Street) 9PM $10

FUNDRAISER | Japan Relief Fundraiser - Hard Times at the Hard Luck
A comedy and cabaret showcase is going down tonight to raise funds towards relief in Japan. There will be an improv troupe, stand up comedy featuring Patrick Haye and Jy Harris, and more. The event is PWYC, so you can contribute to the cause at any level you are comfortable with. This is a great way to check out what is a regular Monday night comedy event at The Hard Luck Bar.
Hard Luck Bar (812 Dundas Street West) 8PM PWYC

LITERATURE | Reading by "Orally Gifted" Tightrope Walkers
Three authors published under the "Tightrope Books" imprint will read tonight at a special gathering. Myna Wallin, known for her poetry, will be reading from her first novel, "Confessions Of A Reluctant Cougar". Basil Papademos, author of "The Hook Of It Is", will be reading from his forthcoming second novel, "Mount Royal", and Heather Wood will be reading from her novel, "Fortune Cookie". Following the readings, there will be an open mic, hosted by Big Rude Jake.
The Painted Lady (218 Ossignton Avenue) 7:30PM FREE
