Store that sells used furniture at affordable prices closing Toronto location
A chain that has locations all across Ontario, renowned for offering discounted prices on new and used furniture, just announced that they're shutting down one of their Toronto locations.
Besides trying to navigate bulky furniture up and down flights of stairs (which, in its defence, did inspire one of the most iconic scenes on Friends), the actual act of buying the furniture — or, more specifically, paying for new furniture, has to be one of the worst parts of moving.
It's all fun and games at first, as you flood your Pinterest board with chic, Scandinavian-inspired interior design, until you inevitably make one wrong turn and discover that the couch you've been dreaming of for months costs more than your rent. For the entire year.
Still, though, furniture is quite literally a necessity, even for those who can't afford it, which was precisely the inspiration prompted Winnipeg-based non-profit, Habitat ReStore to open their first store back in 1991.
In 1995, the first ReStore location opened in the GTA, offering affordable furniture — both new and used — with all proceeds going to Habitat Humanity.
ReStore now operates hundreds of locations across Canada, including four in Toronto, but those ranks are about to fall, as the chain confirms that they'll soon be closing one of their major locations in the city.
"The Studio District Habitat ReStore location will be permanently closing end of day on Sunday, December 15th, 2024," the chain writes in the caption of an Instagram post announcing the closure.
This particular location, nestled just off Lakeshore in what's sometimes referred to as the Studio District, was a particularly abundant one, where eagle-eyed shoppers could regularly get their hands on donated props and set pieces from nearby production studios.
Despite this location shuttering, though, they also reaffirm that they are "still very committed to the community and will be happy to serve you at one of our other locations," which, in Toronto's case, means Etobicoke, East York or Scarborough.
If you're willing to extend beyind the city's formal borders, you can also get your hands on some massively discounted furniture and decor at one of Habitat ReStore's GTA locations in Brampton, Markham, Newmarket, Oshawa and Vaughan.
At the time of publication, Habitat ReStore has not responded to blogTO's request for comment on the closure.
