Yonge Street Remembrance Day Moment of Silence
A stretch of Canada’s busiest downtown street will come to a halt for a moment’s silence and other tributes to mark Remembrance Day at 11:00 a.m. on November 11.
A few blocks from the formal Cenotaph ceremony at Old City Hall, the Downtown Yonge BIA has arranged for bagpipers along Yonge St. from Richmond St. to north of College St.
At Yonge and Dundas, a bugler will play The Last Post, followed by kilted bagpipers playing The Lament at six intersections (Richmond, Shuter, Dundas, Gerrard, College and Grosvenor/Alexander).
Digital screens at Yonge Dundas Square will show Remembrance Day-related imagery. Astral, Branded Cities, Cadillac Fairview, Outfront Media, Rogers Media and Yonge-Dundas Square have all donated the air time for the screens.
“Remembrance Day is a way for our community to come together, take a moment and reflect on the sacrifices made for our country,” says Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area (DYBIA) executive director Mark Garner. “We invite shoppers, visitors, residents and businesses on Yonge Street to join us at one of these locations and share that moment of reflection with us.”
