Our features:

Dagmar Morgan is an arts educator, spoken word artist and singer from Toronto, Canada.

Dagmar is a slam poetry champion Torontos Bill Brown Slam Champion 2013, The Champion of Champions 2013 and a trained vocalist Jazz. She has played venues across Canada in both capacities and has featured her poetry in many high-profile venues including the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word Montreal 2013, Toronto International Poetry Slam, The Art Bar Poetry Series, The Champions Cup, winner 2013. She has worked musically/shared a stage with Jackie Richardson, Elaine Overholt, Don Kerr, Rheostatics, Sunriser and most recently alt. country band Kanteen Knockout.

In arts education Dagmar uses words and expression as a healing mechanism in the young people. Her desire to affect more lives drove her to expand beyond the school walls yup, she was a teacher to conduct workshops and facilitate healing and expansion of youth and other artists. A strong believer in bringing up the next generation to be powerful art successors Dagmar also utilizes her years of pedagogy to coach young spoken word artists and performers.

As a poet Dagmar has been published in The Toronto Quarterly, Words on Pages Anthology and the Faith Times. She is currently collaborating on a book project with visual artist Pirkko Saari and is co-organizer of Shab-e Sher Poetry Series which translates into Poetry Night Torontos most diverse poetry series. But mostly she is just a good Irish girl who calls her father every Sunday, loves coffee more than any one should and knows a lot about Paris for someone who has never been there. Arlene Paculan creates soulful pop with passion. The Filipino-Canadian's recent successful debut album, "Everything Begins with Love has been embraced by Canada's largest broadcaster, the CBC, with airplay on radio. Arlene was interviewed with producer Sandy Mowat, on the popular radio show Fresh Air and was selected as a featured artist by Mark Rheaume CBC National Music Director.

Arlene has graced many stages across Toronto, including The Gladstone Hotel, Yonge & Dundas Square and Mississauga Celebration Square. In addition to her performances around the GTA, she has also performed in LA, NYC, Anaheim, Halifax, Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Montreal. In 2012, Arlene played at TD Toronto Jazz Festival and she will be performing again at the 2015 season for the full length of the festival at Habits Gastropub. She has opened for Canadian songstress Jill Barber, as part of the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebration and performed at the Beaches International Jazz Street Fest.

David Bateman is visual artist, poet, and performance artist whose work has been presented internationally over the past thirty years. He has taught literature and creative writing at a variety of Canadian post-secondary institutions and has shown his visual art at banu, Show Gallery and The Secret Handshake Gallery Toronto. His four collections of poetry, Invisible Foreground, Impersonating Flowers, tis pity, and Designation Youth, have been published by Frontenac House Press Calgary. Frontenac has also published his collaborative long poem, Wait Until Late Afternoon, written with poet/novelist Hiromi Goto. Hidden Book Press will publish his collection of short stories and creative non-fiction essays, entitled A Mad Bent Diva in 2015. A Mad Bent Diva is also an accurate and concise anagram for David Bateman.

Hugh Wilson Since moving from Halifax in 2007, Hugh Wilson has been increasingly active in the Toronto music scene. In 2011 he graduated as an audio engineer, became lead guitarist for David Hustler & The Trustworthy and formed his own band Big Name Actors. In 2012 The Songwriters Circle of Jerks was formed by Hugh, Nick Verona, Nelson Sobral & David Hustler. This monthly acoustic showcase is still running and featuring Toronto-based acts nearly 3 years later. Since then he has performed, recorded and toured with a variety of bands such as: Newark Minute, Lacey Wilson & The Darling Knights, Mary Stewart, Shikha and Red Falcon / White Lightning. You can see his band Big Name Actors at The Horseshoe Tavern on April 16th.
