On show from October 3 to 29 at Scarborough’s Clark Centre for the Arts next to Guild Park, Toronto artist Katharine Harvey showcases “Turning in the Light,” an exhibit exploring the intersection of the built environment, history and nature and introducing a new interpretation on the landmarks that have shaped Toronto’s past.

Scarborough’s historic Guild Park was founded by art patrons Rosa and Spencer Clark almost a century ago as a haven supporting local Canadian artists during the Great Depression – a space that transformed into the “Guild of All Arts,” where painters, sculptors and craftspeople would live and collaborate. Today, the park remains a significant piece of Scarborough’s community fabric, where the estate’s historic Guild Inn continues to host weddings, photography & television productions, and scenic trails wind through the surrounding forest and lakeshore.

This new body of work explores the remarkable architectural fragments preserved at Guild Park. Historic stone carvings rescued from demolished Toronto buildings now coexist with forests, gardens, and Lake Ontario. Through vibrant paintings, Katharine Harvey reveals layered stories that connect built heritage, nature, and memory, inviting viewers to see the park with fresh eyes.

Harvey will present “Turning in the Light” in an opening reception at The Clark Centre for the Arts on Sunday, October 4th from 1-3 p.m, followed by a guided tour of Guild Park at 3:15 p.m. presented by John Mason, president of Friends of Guild Park.
