Brahms’s last and most powerful symphony shares the bill with a brand-new John Adams symphony with violin solo that pays homage to the exotic melodies and spell-binding colours of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Arabian Nights suite, Scheherazade. Adams has called it “the next chapter in the story.”
