TO EXPLAIN THE WORLD: Revisiting Restrepo

Restrepo (2010), co-directed by Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington, follows a platoon of U.S. soldiers deployed in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley. Shot over the course of a year, the film offers an intimate, unfiltered look at life on the front lines.

This screening marks 15 years since the death of photojournalist and filmmaker Tim Hetherington. The evening will include a brief excerpt from a recorded conversation with Tim Hetherington from 2009, and a recent conversation with Sebastian Junger, followed by an open discussion on witnessing, authorship, and what it means to “be there” in an era of AI and mediated images.
