The Victorian Cult of Mourning

After the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria became known as "The Widow of Windsor", setting the tone for elaborate mourning customs throughout the Empire. Come to learn about hair jewelry, mutes, crepe veils, zinc tombstones, tear bottles, post mortem photography and other elements of the Cult of Mourning.

Participants will gain an understanding of how western society?s funeral rituals evolved during the 19th century due to various societal changes and how they continue to evolve to today.
