The Sororum Presents: A Step Through Time
On Saturday, November 14th, join us in the heart of Yorkville as we step into a world of history, art, and craftsmanship.
Our journey begins at the iconic Bata Shoe Museum, housed within Raymond Moriyama's award-winning architectural landmark. Here, we'll uncover fascinating stories of craftsmanship, culture, and human expression before enjoying a hands-on creative experience.
From the museum, we'll make our way to the historic Oxley for an intimate lunch and engaging conversation, bringing together the elements that make every Sororum gathering special: discovery, meaningful dialogue, and the joy of connecting with extraordinary women.
How Our Day Will Unfold
10:30 AM – 12:15 PM | Private Guided Museum Tour
We'll begin with a private guided exploration of two remarkable exhibitions, each revealing how something as familiar as footwear can tell extraordinary stories about the people, cultures, and civilizations that came before us.
Unearthing Vindolanda: Footwear from the Edge of the Roman Empire — Step back nearly 2,000 years and discover remarkably preserved footwear offering a rare and intimate glimpse into everyday life along the northern frontier of the Roman Empire.
Brilliant: The Art of Beaded Footwear Around the World — Journey across cultures and generations to discover the beauty, symbolism, and extraordinary artistry of beadwork, and the stories of identity, tradition, and craftsmanship woven into every creation.
12:15 PM – 1:00 PM | A Hands-On Leatherworking Experience
From appreciating craftsmanship to trying our hand at it!
We'll learn about traditional leatherworking techniques before creating our very own custom leather keychain — a beautiful little keepsake to remember the day.
1:15 PM – 3:00 PM | Lunch & Guided Discussion at The Oxley
At the heart of every Sororum gathering is the opportunity to connect, share perspectives, and enjoy thoughtful conversation.
We'll continue our afternoon at The Oxley, a charming British-inspired restaurant nestled within a late-19th-century Victorian townhouse in Yorkville. With its old-world character and inviting atmosphere, it provides a wonderful setting to gather around the table.
Over a specially arranged prix fixe lunch, we'll enjoy delicious food, warm company, and a guided discussion inspired by the stories and discoveries of our morning together.
3:00 PM Onward | Discover Yorkville
For those wishing to extend the day, Yorkville awaits!
Enjoy an afternoon exploring one of Toronto's most charming neighbourhoods, where historic Victorian streetscapes meet art galleries, inviting cafés, and beautiful boutiques. A lovely opportunity to linger, explore, and enjoy the autumn atmosphere at your own pace.
