The Science of Gaydar
The popular notion of "gaydar" has become a common colloquialism but is this urban parlance any more than an urban legend? University of Toronto psychology professor and Canada Research Chair, Dr. Nicholas Rule, will present data illustrating the cognitive and perceptual factors that people unwillingly, effortlessly, and unknowingly use to form judgments of men's and women's sexual orientations. His findings will show not only that people tend to be accurate in their perceptions of sexual orientation but that these judgments can impact real-world consequences for both the people perceived and those who do the perceiving.
