The Reset: Benevolence Hall by Kevin Matthew Wong

Explore interdisciplinary artist Kevin Matthew Wong’s Benevolence Hall at the Market Gallery. Benevolence Hall is a free community space that invites visitors to reflect on their journeys and relationships to Canada, through the lens of Hakka (客家 / guest family) people. This immersive installation includes a reading room, a short documentary film, and a custom video installation “Moon Gate,” created for the Market Gallery. Benevolence Hall is part of Kevin Matthew Wong’s “Benevolence” art projects celebrating Hakka history and stories in Canada. The series also include a short film and a solo theatre piece “Benevolence” that premieres in early 2025 at Toronto's Tarragon Theatre.

This May, Toronto History Museums celebrate museums as dynamic institutions with thought-provoking installations and engaging experiences that showcase art, heritage and culture. Experience “The Reset”, a series of ten new media installations produced as part of the 2024 mentorship program led by Toronto-based multi-disciplinary artist Yung Yemi across the THM network.

Toronto History Museums are breaking through. The Breakthrough is a series of dynamic cultural experiences at Toronto History Museums. Celebrating diversity, inclusion, equality, wellness, sustainability and advocacy.
