Held annually on the day after Valentines, The Love Hangover started in Raleigh, NC 17 years ago. Performers are paired up, each playing 23 songs about love, often with someone theyve never performed with before. Since 2000, the show has grown to include four more cities New York, Chicago, Kansas City, Ann Arbor and has featured over 300 performers, including members of Guided by Voices Doug Gillard, The Magnetic Fields, and Cat Power. The Love Hangover in Toronto features 12 musicians in unexpected pairings, performing originals or covers, chestnuts or guilty pleasures, glorifying love, or mourning a breakup, songs for the lovelorn, love torn, or love sworn. Co-hosted this year by vocalist Beverly Taft and comedian and crooner George Westerholm, The Love Hangovers second foray north of the 49th includes musicians from blues, folk, jazz, pop, rock, and world traditions. Bluesman, folkie, jazz player, songwriter, arranger, singer, guitarist and musician extraordinaire Tony Quarrington leads the house band, with bassist Frank Sant and drummer/vocalist/LH veteran Zebulun Barnow. Singer/songwriters are quirky popster Shelby Lamb, guitarist/vocalist Isabel Fryszberg, guitarist/singer Abigail Lapell, bluesy singer Heather Luckhart, campy saxman/vocalist Fred Spek, kickass rocker James Clark, and one man band Bradley James McGoey.
