The Hungriest Woman in the World

Emerging theatre collective Pencil Kit Productions premiers The Hungriest Woman in the World by Canadian poet and playwright Shannon Bramer, who comes into this production hot off the September release of her most recent book of poetry, Precious Energy.

(“Shannon Bramer writes with a candor that is as clever as it is devastating […] drawing the domestic into utter sublimity.” -Robin Richardson).

The Hungriest Woman in the World is a curious navigation of futility and meaning fuelled by a woman who inadvertently escapes from the confused loneliness of her real life into an audacious, seductive world of theatre and art.

The production follows Aimee, who goes to see a play alone when her husband Rob refuses to join her. Her evening at the theatre tumbles into absurdity with dancing octopuses, overly intimate strangers and drunken mistakes.

Each performance of The Hungriest Woman in the World will be preceded by ten-minute play Paul and Petandra by Deanna Kruger. Paul and Petandra first premiered at the the 2016 InspiraTO Festival, where it received a People’s Choice Award and was featured in the Tomo Suru Players’ About Love Festival in Vancouver this past June.
