What is the sound of a city?

Toronto’s most exciting jazz group The Composers Collective Big Band is putting on it’s biggest show yet and it’s a tribute to our great city. 8 of Toronto’s top jazz composers have been commissioned to write about the neighbourhoods and aspects of the city that inspire them the most and are putting them together into musical journey. It’s a show for Torontonians of all generations and musical tastes to celebrate the city together.

Toronto has been known as a great jazz city for decades. When jazz fans all over the world hear bands like Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass they instantly recognize the swinging, unique arrangements and studio perfect playing as the Toronto sound. Toronto’s sound is evolving into something new, something different, something audacious and today’s generation of jazz musicians are forging that new sound right now. Come join us as this show premieres the suite live! This is today’s Toronto sound.

The Composers Collective Big Band has been bringing inspiring new jazz music to the clubs and festivals of Toronto for more than 10 years. The band is made up of 17 of the city’s “first call” jazz musicians, each of whom can be seen in groups all over town and are trail blazers in their own right.
