Teiku feat. Jason Stein and Jaribu Shahid

Chicago/Detroit based ensemble Teiku reframes unique and rare Eastern European ancestral passover melodies in an improvised music setting. The expansive possibilities of instant composition, the ritualistic origins of the melodies, and the inspiration of jazz pioneers like Ornette Coleman and Muhal Richard Abrams all contribute to the immersive world of Teiku.

The band features bass clarinetist Jason Stein (Natural Information Society, Hearts and Minds), bassist Jaribu Shahid (Art Ensemble of Chicago, Sun Ra Arkestra, Geri Allen), and founders pianist Josh Harlow (Vincent Davis, Wadada Leo Smith) and percussionist Jonathan Barahal (saajtak, Wadada Leo Smith, Michael Formanek). Teiku is releasing their sophomore album, Klang, this June on Ginkgo Records,
