The Munk Debate on The Rise of Populism

To better understand whether the surging populist sentiment in Western nations signals a permanent shift in our politics, or is a passing phenomenon, on Friday, November 2, 2018, the Munk Debates will move the motion: Be it resolved, the future of western politics is populist, not liberal.

Arguing for the resolution will be one of the world's most well-known populist thinkers and campaigners, Stephen K. Bannon. As Chief Strategist in the Trump White House, Bannon is credited as the architect of much of the populist agenda that has come to define the Trump presidency.

Speaking against the resolution is David Frum, one of North America's leading public intellectuals and critic of populist politics. He is a senior editor at The Atlantic magazine, and his most recent book, Trumpocracy. The Corruption of the American Republic was a New York Times bestseller.

Tickets for the debate, priced from $40 to $100 each, will go on sale to premium members on Wednesday, October 10 at 10:00 am EDT. Any remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, October 11 at 12:00 noon EDT.
