What is a Self-Directed RRSP?
A Self-directed RRSP is an RRSP account not an investment that allows you to hold a wide variety of investments within one single trust account.
Self-directed RRSPs give you more freedom and control over your investment portfolio, tax-deferred. You have the opportunity to tailor your portfolio and become a money lender by directing your capital into an approved trust account that is then able to lend said funds into mortgages for higher fixed returns, secured on real estate.
Contrary to the name, self-directed RRSPs do not have to be self-managed. You can have a wealth management advisor help you manage your self-directed RRSP.

ABOUT JONATHAN
In 1998 Jonathan made the last mortgage payment on the home he shared with his wife Cathie and announced to her we cant eat the living room
Explaining that he didnt have a pension and he was concerned about their future income, Jonathan convinced Cathie that real estate was the answer
The first acquisition was a triplex. The second a joint venture on a duplex and the third was a 6plex that the Weavers renovated. Jonathan credits Cathie with the fact that they have never had a vacancy or months missed rent from tenants over the last 17 years.
After a pseudo retirement in 2008 during which Cathie and Jonathan set a world record, they reviewed their finances and discovered that private lending could be safer and more lucrative than being a landlord.
Since that time the Weavers have invested their RRSPs and Cathies LIRA into mortgages earning themselves a higher return with more security than they had experienced in the stock market
