Rubber Ducky Day: Ducky Sightings Edition
Toronto, it’s cold.
We acknowledge this. We respect this.
And yet… the ducks insist.
Rubber Ducky Day is celebrated annually on January 13th, marking the birthday of Ernie's beloved bath toy from Sesame Street.
This day, 56 years ago, Sesame Street taught us something simple and true:
that comfort can be small,
that joy can be silly,
and that talking to a duck is not a problem, it’s a solution.
As kids, we were allowed to be earnest about small things.
Somewhere along the way, we stopped.
So today, we borrow that truth back.
Your mission is simple:
📍 Take your rubber ducky out into the city
📸 Spot it somewhere distinctly Toronto
❄️ No splashing, no stripping, no suffering
🦆 Just a duck, existing bravely
Think:
- Street signs
- TTC platforms
- Snowbanks pretending they’re beaches
- Puddles that feel like lakes (frozen?! keep of the ice!)
- Anywhere a duck would say: “Yes. This will do.”
Post your Ducky Sighting. No explanation required. Confusion is part of the charm.
Bonus points if:
- Your duck looks emotionally prepared for winter
- Someone in the background is deeply questioning reality
- The duck is clearly happier than you
Cold city. Soft nonsense.
Let the ducks be seen. 🦆✨
