The Honeymoon Killers is a sordid masterpiece - written and directed by Leonard Kastle and inspired by the true story of 'The Lonely Hearts Killers", a dangerous duo named Raymond Ferandez and Martha Jule Beck, who murdered as many as 20 women between 1947 and 1949, by answering lonely hearts ads in newspapers. Shirley Stoler stars as Martha Beck, an embittered nurse who lives with her senile mother, and has long since abandoned the idea that she could ever find love. When Martha's friend Bunny submits her to the 'lonely hearts' club, she receives a letter from the sultry Ray Fernandez, who she immediately becomes enamoured with. After she eventually moves to New York to live with Ray, she learns that he routinely seduces women and steals their money, but Martha loves him anyway. Matters escalate as the two become more and more intertwined, leaving a bloody, chaotic mess along the way. Ain't love grand?
