Renowned Vocalist Aynur Dogan at the Aga Khan Museum
Opening the Aga Khan Museum’s fall performing arts series with a soulful performance, Kurdish vocalist Aynur Dogan blends Kurdish folk with Western music while interpreting a traditional repertoire in a modern way. Renowned for boldly presenting traditional Kurdish folk songs with lyrics about the life and sufferings of Kurdish people – and of Kurdish women in particular – Aynur’s voice has been described as “unforgettable” by Yo-Yo Ma.
Exiled from Turkey due to her outspokenness on Kurdish issues, Aynur Dogan knows what it means to take risks for her art. Under the banner of “The Other Side of Fear,” the fall performing arts season at the Aga Khan Museum explores the definition of fear, what it means to face fear and how we attempt to define, confront and conquer fear in ourselves and others.
