Reign & Devour

Featuring work by Stephanie Rees and Lesia Szyca

"Our existence is that of greedy children, shoving things into our mouths without forethought or regret. We consume everything which exists around us, digesting the natural beauty of this world and corrupting it to suit our needs. Creation and destruction are the only constant; one will never triumph over the other. Our reality is not one of coexistence, the underlying force of humanity is suffocation. Our physical reconstruction of beauty can only be measured in comparison to the natural items we destroy in order to emulate them. We attempt to immortalize beacons of life in an effort to claim our dominion over nature. In this continuous struggle to emulate its perfection, we only further corrupt it. Our obsession with beauty is the only defense nature has against us. As we consume it, we crave it. We strive to control and conquer in a way no other species could. We have been afflicted with a self-imposed idea of superiority. We see it as our right to reign over the earth and squander its perfection."
