Preserving in the Park: Strawberry Balsamic Jam

Fairmount Park Farmers Market is hosting Preserving in the Park workshops with Manning Canning.

Join Christine Manning, owner of Manning Canning and long-time preserver, as she walks you through the jam-making process, covering all the basics of jar sterilization, safe canning practices and important do’s and don’ts of canning and preserving. You will also get a copy of the recipe and at a jar of jam to take home .

Class Description

Nothing tells you that summer has finally arrived like the appearance on Ontario strawberries, and you can enjoy their gorgeous flavour all year if you seize the day and turn those fleeting little beauties into delicious preserves. But this is NOT your grandma’s strawberry jam —packed full of fresh Ontario strawberries with a sophisticated twist that makes this jam a perfect compliment to cheese or other savoury delights.

Details

Registration is $40.00 per person. This includes jars and ingredients. Please bring a cutting board and a knife. The class will take place at the farmers market. In the event of severe weather, a rain date will be provided. Check-in at the market information booth 15 minutes prior to the start of the class to be directed to the correct tent.

Pickled Hot Pepper (September 10th)

These pickled peppers will add a touch of zing to sandwiches, sauces, salads and more. Once you try them you will want to make them season after season.

Apple Pie in a Jar (October 8th)

There is our old favourite - Apple Butter, but then there is Apple Pie in a Jar. Made with Ontario Apples and combined with cinnamon, brown sugar and other tasty delights. This is dessert in a jar and will be all you need to tantalize the taste buds of family and friends.
