Prefix Photo 39 Release Party and Opening Reception for Taysir Batniji

Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art is pleased to celebrate the release of the thirty-ninth issue of Prefix Photo, on the subject of “Patterns of History.” This issue of the magazine features writer and curator Vicky Moufawad-Paul on the work of Taysir Batniji; Janine Marchessault, Gerald McMaster and Jonathan Shaughnessy on the 57th Carnegie International; and architectural historian and contemporary art critic Kenneth Hayes on serial Chinese mining portrait photography. It also includes portfolios by Sara Angelucci, Claudio Gobbi, Glenn Ligon and Ye Jinglu; and book reviews by Jesse Cumming, Laura Demers, Kenneth Hayes and Rebecca Travis.

In conjunction with the release of the magazine, Prefix ICA is pleased to host the opening reception for “Suspended Time,” a solo exhibition by Palestinian-born artist Taysir Batniji, curated by Scott McLeod. A primary exhibition of the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival, presented in partnership with the Institut Français and the Toronto Cultural Office of the French Embassy in Canada. The artist and curator will be in attendance. The event is free and open to the public.
