In 1996, Blind theatre artist Alex Bulmer had a life-changing encounter with a swimming pool. It sparked a new ambition to become a travel writer and to venture across Europe and North America.

PERCEPTUAL ARCHAEOLOGY reveals unexpected relationships with time, geography, and meaning. It asks us to question how we perceive and make meaning of the spaces around us and recounts a story that is playful, unpredictable, and revelatory.

Alex Bulmer and Leah Cherniak are established leaders in disability arts and physical theatre, respectively, and have previously collaborated on several projects, including the 2021 short film, Postcards from My Balcony. Recently, Alex curated CoMotion Festival at Harbourfront Centre, a multidisciplinary celebration of new ideas and expressions by Deaf and disabled artists.
