Penguin Teen Screen presents HACKERS!

Author of YA novel Girl Gone Viral, Arvin Ahmadi talks about his novel featuring a seventeen-year-old coder’s catapult to stardom and quest to meet the billionaire founder of the world’s biggest VR platform, WAVE, who just might be the man who murdered her father – before a screening of the 1995 proto-Internet-sploitation film, HACKERS!

About the film
Hackers
USA 1995 97min. PG
Directed by Iain Softley
Starring Johnny Lee Miller, Angelina Jolie, Matthew Lillard

“Hack the planet!” Eighteen-year-old hacker genius, “Crash Override” (JONNY LEE MILLER) ingratiates himself with some local young computer types, like “Phantom Phreak” (RENOLY SANTIAGO), “Cereal Killer” (MATTHEW LILLARD), and – of course – “Acid Burn” (ANGELINA JOLIE). Our band of merry hackers uncover a devious plot to unleash a dangerous computer virus, but find their efforts to reveal the truth the public hounded by the American Secret Service (those guys!) and the evil computer mastermind behind it all, “The Plague” (Phoebe’s one-time boyfriend on Friends, FISHER STEVENS).

Filled with hacker nightclubs (?), rollerblading, and questionable computer science, Hackers is more fun than a LAN party! Keep your eyes peeled for Swimfan’s JESSE BRADFORD, The Wire’s WENDELL PIERCE, magician PENN GILLETTE, and The Sopranos’ LORRAINE BRACCO. A special event hosted by Anne Thériault and featuring Arvin Ahmadi (Girl Gone Viral)!
