Parkdale Arts and Culture Centre -Doors Open Toronto

The Parkdale Arts and Cultural Centre at 1313 Queen St. West is a repurposed art deco police station that now houses Gallery 1313 ( the former holding cells of the police station ) and about a dozen artists living in 9 live work units ( 4 of them in the former horse stables of Division 6 ) as well as several community offices . It will be one of about 150 buildings around the City opening its doors to the public. Though the public will not be able to explore the whole building they will see a video of the rest of the interior and hear a history of the building .

The building is slated for demolishing in a few years . Some of the exterior brickwork will be part of a new Library in half a dozen years or more . Gallery 1313 has been located in this rare deco building for the last 27 years ... written up by Christopher Hume in 1997 for the Toronto Star .. the New Bohemia .. Queen St. West ...
