Ocean's Eleven at Christie Pits Film Festival

Glitter and glam, gold and grifters: welcome to Las Vegas! While most cities are built for living and working, Las Vegas was built for hedonistic escape - and heists. Steven Soderbergh’s OCEAN’S ELEVEN (a remake of the 1960s Rat Pack original) takes great pleasure in the trials and triumphs of eleven eccentric underdogs. Con artist Danny Ocean assembles a team of misfits for a complex smash and grab scheme, maneuvering the ins and outs of a high security Las Vegas casino. And just like a deck of cards, OCEAN’S ELEVEN turns up surprises every new hand.

Two-time festival veteran Dylan Reibling’s short film MODEL is also about outsmarting a rival and mastering the urban environment. In this sleek, wordless short, two architects compete for their boss’ approval of their designs for a miniature-sized empire: a model city based on the six blocks of Toronto’s Old Town - between Yonge and Front, Church and Richmond. This evening’s programme is all about leaving banality behind and giving into the thrill of the chase.
