Are you wondering what Node.js is and why so many developers keep talking about it? Node.js is a new technology that radically differentiates itself from all the other competitors out there including Ruby on Rails, Django, .NET etc. It was developed to optimally carry out the types of tasks web applications preform on a routine basis. These tasks include: handling user inputs and interactions, passing data to and from a database, and updating web sites in real time. In a nut shell, Node.js does the things that web sites do most often better than any other technology that exists right now. By optimizing these tasks, Node.js can save you both time and operational cost by creating a platform that can support web applications with large user bases without negatively impacting the web sites performance speeds. In this workshop we will explore what makes Node.js so unique and how it is built to outperform its competitors. We will do this by building an API driven e-commerce web application that uses Node.js and AngularJS to facilitate the management of an online shop.

What an MVC framework is

The difference between Node.js and Rails/Django/.Net

How to setup a simple Node.js server on your computer

How to build an API driven web application

Langauges used: HTML, CSS, Javascript

Technologies used: AngularJS, Node.js, JSON, Ajax

Prerequisites If you are interested in building the workshop's application:

Experience with coding in Javascript (preferred)

Or experience with programming in general in languages like (ruby, php, c#, and python)

If you are interest in just learning and listening:

No prerequisite, but T.A time to help you with work will be limited.
