a screening of Mikel Guillen's THE NATURAL STATE
DECEMBER 16th, 2014 8PM doors $8
"Endless Conjecture" out on Orange Milk Records is my second release of this year following "Gardens". While it uses similar techniques simply layering acoustic/ electromechanical instruments with little to no digital tampering it's a very different beasthinting at darker territory, while also offering humorous notes. It includes "Terminal Burrowing", a long piece commissioned for Montreal's AKOUSMA Festival and the score to Mikel Guillen's "The Natural State" which will be screened at the show.
My live set will make use of the intimate setting of Ratio and will employ an array of different types of speakers contact speaker, small amps and instruments.

This evening will feature two very special performances:
First, Michael Keith will perform solo improvisations on baritone ukelele. While the ukelele tends to have rather unsavoury associations for most, Keith's playing offers a refreshing contrast. Inspired by his training in Iranian and Chinese music, and numerous other folk and classical forms Keith's playing is virtuosic yet poised, and always generously melodic.
A live PA set by none other than Craig Dunsmuir who, as Kanada 70, Guitarkestra, and as one half of Glissandro 70 has been making enormous, albeit semi-clandestine contributions to the Toronto music scene for a number of years now. Dunsmuir very seldom performs live and I feel very fortunate that he's offered to share some of his new work this evening.

Craig Dunsmuir 10pm
