Since 2010, Next Music from Tokyo has brought some of the best indie/underground bands from Japan to perform in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

Volume 18 features:

1. Haku. – all female indie-pop band with a cover song that went worldwide viral but still making noise with original songs that slap even harder. They were the biggest reason NMFT 17 sold out so quickly so I had to bring them back again this year. https://youtu.be/kDdTf2EinCs

2. SYAYOS – an experimental pop band from Nagano whose music drifts seamlessly between folk, soul, and punk — think Kaneko Ayano meets Fugazi. https://youtu.be/XuskwXYrBHs

3. pudelhunds – an exceptionally talented trio performing intricately beautiful math rock with a bit of screamo https://youtu.be/CPg7FH51Ots

4. Yureruwayurei – means ‘what quivers is a GHOST.’ Hailing from Okayama this 4pc crafts a melancholic blend of intense shoegaze and post-rock, channeling a sound reminiscent of NMFT favorites Kinoko Teikoku. https://youtu.be/BevBa3-iWAQ
