Following the story of a 17th century village on a witchhunt, Churchill describes Vinegar Tom as a play "about witches with no witches in it". Composed of dark scenes juxtaposed with contemporary music lyrics by Churchill and new music by TakeNote Music Sound, the play is a searing and satirical look at the oppression of women on the fringes of society: the poor, the unmarried, the "different".
