Neon Dreams Cinema Club: The King of Comedy

We, along with the rest of the world, were devastated to hear of the passing of one of the worlds irreplaceable comedy legends last week. To celebrate Jerry Lewis’s work, life, and legacy Neon Dreams will be holding a very special presentation of Martin Scorsese’s THE KING OF COMEDY presented on a gorgeous restoration crafted specifically for a 30th anniversary screening at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film will also be preceded by a Jerry Lewis tribute pre-show.

THE KING OF COMEDY, Martin Scorsese’s surprisingly comedic follow-up to RAGING BULL was widely dismissed upon its release in 1983 and, despite stellar reviews, ended up bombing at the box office. Perhaps the general public weren’t ready to see a pitch-black satire about a delusional aspiring comic (Robert De Niro as Rupert Pupkin) who convinces himself that stalking and kidnapping Johnny Carson-esque late night talk show host (Jerry Lewis as Jerry Langford) is his ticket to fame and glory, but we certainly are.

As hilarious as it is uncomfortable, THE KING OF COMEDY arguably gives Jerry Lewis the most challenging and human role of his career and we are so excited to watch it with you on the big screen.

This screening and others are made possible thanks to our wonderful sponsor Hollywood Suite. As always this will be a fully licensed event featuring a fabulous on-screen pre-show and great prizes before the film. Be sure to arrive early!
