Music TORONTO - Penderecki String Quartet
The Penderecki String Quartet began their journey in Poland, winning the prestigious Penderecki Prize at the 1986 National Chamber Music Competition in Łódź. Since 1991, they have been Quartet-in-Residence at Wilfrid Laurier University, shaping one of Canada’s leading string programs. Renowned for their commitment to contemporary music, the Penderecki Quartet has commissioned and performed over 100 new works. This season, they present a world premiere collaboration with rapper Shad and composer Nicole Lizée, featuring the suite Something Good Is Gonna Happen…I Don’t Know When… Closing the program, Roman Borys—cellist of the Gryphon Trio and Artistic Director of Music TORONTO—joins the quartet to perform Schubert’s sublime Quintet in C Major.
