Memory × Resonance is a multidisciplinary cultural event combining historical exhibition, documentary film, live music, and art installation. Through the intersection of Hong Kong’s history and personal stories, the project explores home, identity, migration, and memory.

The event consists of two parts. Audiences first enter an exhibition tracing key moments in Hong Kong’s history from 1842 to 2020—from the colonial era and post-war development to the 1997 Handover, the 2019 protests, and major waves of migration to Canada. The exhibition explores how Hong Kong has evolved from a city shaped by migration into an important source of cultural memory for communities around the world.

Following the exhibition, audiences will experience the documentary Memory × Resonance, centred on three generations of the director’s family: a grandfather who fled China for Hong Kong in the 1960s, parents who built their lives there, and a filmmaker who left Hong Kong after 2019 carrying years of recorded images with him. Through first-person narration, city sounds, family stories, street scenes, and archival footage, the film transforms collective history into personal memory while exploring freedom, identity, displacement, and belonging.

More than a reflection on historical events, Memory × Resonance is an artistic exploration of memory, cultural heritage, and our emotional connection to place. Moving from history to lived experience, and from collective memory to personal stories, the project invites audiences to reconsider what “home” means—and how memory can travel across borders and generations to create resonance.
