Matt Baume: Sitcoms and the Queering of Popular Culture

Writer, podcaster and video-maker Matt Baume visits the Toronto Public Library to discuss his book Hi Honey, I’m Homo! Sitcoms, Specials, and the Queering of American Culture.

Armed with humour, wit and reams of research, Matt will share behind the scenes stories and examine the cultural impact of the most groundbreaking coming out scenes from TV history. Matt will speak with writer, film programmer, pop culture critic Anthony Oliveira about how comedy and humor have made coming out easier, how queer TV characters have evolved over the years and why coming out is such a vital part of Pride.

Before the talk, join Matt and Anthony for a special TV Theme Song Sing-Along with queer pianist Darren Creech.

This event is part of Toronto Public Library's signature Salon Series, featuring local and international authors, artists and thinkers in conversation about their new books and big ideas.

Free registration through eventbrite.
