Make This Universe: DIY Natural Perfume Workshop

Paloma Picasso compared perfume to "a piece of clothing", because scent is both personal– something you choose for yourself– and public– a sensory experience that represents you in some way. And just like a Picasso painting, your perfume should be one-of-a-kind. MTU's much anticipated DIY Natural Perfume Workshop is the weeknight creative outlet you’ve been looking for- giving you a chance to tell a story through scent while learning about the science behind your skincare. For a unique experience that blends scientific thinking with creative expression, join Make This Universe as they host their very first perfumery event on June 6th!

Your evening starts with the formulation of your own all-natural fragrance from an array of sustainably-sourced essential oils, based on a consideration of scent and the aromatherapy benefits associated with these powerful botanical constituents. While you create your signature scent, your hosts, Jen Novakovich (cosmetic chemist) and Jessye Grundlingh (founder of MTU) will be dismantling some myths around "toxic chemicals", speaking about the dreaded "fragrance/ parfum" ingredient often found on commercial perfume labels, and guiding a discussion around what essential oils actually are, including guidelines for safe use at home.

Walk away with 15 ml of natural perfume blended by you, as well as our not-so-secret formulation worksheet to recreate your fragrance at home, or as a keepsake to remember the story behind your signature scent.

After your perfume is bottled, you'll have the chance to custom create a 30ml facial oil from over ten premium, botanical carrier oils. Starting with our basic formulation principles, you'll get to target the benefits of your serum to be moisturizing, clarifying, balancing or age defying, based on your personal preferences... and a touch of intuition!
