Lulaworld 2025: Cuban Friday with Cafe Cubano & special guest Andy Rubal
Get ready for an electric night of salsa, timba, and funk-driven Cuban soul as Montreal’s rising star Andy Rubal joins forces with Toronto’s trailblazing Café Cubano for a high-voltage collaboration at Lulaworld Festival. A classically trained pianist and powerful vocalist with roots deep in Cuba’s vibrant musical traditions, Rubal blends contemporary pop and jazz with the pulsing heat of Havana. Whether headlining Montreal’s Nuits d’Afrique or racking up streams with his breakout single “Enamorado en Montréal,” Rubal brings fire, finesse, and irresistible charisma to every performance. At Lula Lounge, expect to see his global groove collide with one of the most respected bands in Canada’s Latin music scene, Café Cubano.
Led by legendary pianist Jorge Betancourt, Café Cubano helped shape Toronto’s salsa and timba community, fusing traditional Cuban forms like son and guaracha with a bold, funky edge. A seasoned performer with deep ties to Cuba’s iconic groups—Charanga 86, Orquesta Trinima, and more—Betancourt brings raw energy and fearless fusion to the stage. Together with Rubal’s powerhouse vocals and contemporary flair, this night promises a dancefloor-ready celebration of Cuban music at its most joyful and dynamic. Part of the 12-night Lulaworld Festival lineup, this show includes a free salsa dance lesson led by Afro Latino and is a must for anyone craving rhythm, soul, and sabor.
