Lulaworld 2014 kicks off with a celebration of the 25th anniversary of CIUT's landmarkd show Global Rhythms with vocalist powerhouse Malika Tirolien visiting from Montreal followed by Juno-nominees Kobo Town. Afterparty with Yasgur's Farm. FREE before 9pm! $10 advance, $15 at the door!

Malika Tirolien 8PM

Originally from Guadalupe, Montreal-based singer, pianist and composer Malika Tirolien explores her Antillean roots while creating a totally contemporary and innovative gospel, jazz, soul and funk hybrid. Malika Tirolien has performed with the Brooklyn-based fusion Snarky Puppy and collaborated with Gregory Charles, Nate James and Lara Fabian.

Kobo Town 10PM

Led by Trinidad-born Drew Gonsalves, Kobo Town came to the attention of the Cumbancha label founder and Putumayo researcher Jacob Edgar after the success of their first CD. With the help of celebrated producer Ivan Duran know for his work with Andy Palacio & The Garifuna Kobo Towns second CD earned a 2014 Juno nomination and has lead to extensive touring throughout Europe.

Best known around town as DJ sess.ion, Vas has been playing records at underground parties large and small for almost 14 years. During his 6 years as a manger at Lula, the exposure to a plethora of musical genres has influenced his record-buying habits, allowing Lula to creep into his crates.
