DJ GiO

Giovanni Torres, also known as DJ GiO, was born and raised in Medellín, Colombia, surrounded by salsa music, teaching, and dancing, which ultimately became his passion. As a dancer, dance instructor, cardio salsa specialist, choreographer, judge, and director of Los Salsomanos Dance Company, he has established a prolific career.

Over 30 years ago, he began his teaching and Deejay career, driven by a desire to cater to dancers. He has performed, taught, and Deejayed at numerous Salsa Congresses and Festivals in Canada, the United States, Europe and Colombia, and regularly appears at Toronto’s premier nightclubs and socials.

He has also been part of the Salsa on St. Clair festival for 21 years. In his words, “DJing and teaching are my passions, collecting great Latin music has been my hobby for many years, and supporting these artists has always made me feel proud. I play from my heart and feel the music I play. I envision myself dancing, and therefore, I envision others dancing to their fullest. Whether it’s Colombian, Puerto Rican, Cuban, New York, or various Latin styles, I play with respect for the artists and feel honoured to be the source that extends it to you, THE DANCERS!”
