Acclaimed Cape Town–born trumpeter Muneeb Hermans opens his July residency with an intimate afternoon performance at CONTXT by Trane, joined by an outstanding quartet featuring pianist Evan Miles, bassist Chris Banks, and drummer Mark Hundevad.

Known for his soulful sound, expressive compositions, and collaborations across South Africa and beyond, Hermans has performed internationally from Carnegie Hall to major jazz festivals throughout Europe, Africa, and North America. This opening concert offers audiences a chance to hear him in a relaxed quartet setting, where lyrical melodies, dynamic improvisation, and deep musical conversation take center stage.

The July residency continues at CONTXT by Trane with two quintet performances on July 11 and July 18, each exploring a different side of Hermans' music, before concluding with a Quartet Residency Wrap-Up concert on July 26. The month also includes a special performance at the Redwood Theatre on Saturday, July 25, where Hermans expands to a septet and is joined by Juno Award-winning vocalist Lorraine Klaasen for a unique collaboration.

About Muneeb Hermans

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Muneeb Hermans began his musical journey in the vibrant Cape Minstrel tradition before studying Jazz Performance at the University of Cape Town. Today, he is recognized as one of South Africa's leading trumpet players, with performances spanning the UK, France, Spain, China, the Seychelles, and the United States, including an appearance at Carnegie Hall.

A regular at South Africa's premier jazz festivals, including the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, and the National Youth Jazz Festival, Hermans recently performed with his own ensemble, Camissa Knights, at the 2026 Cape Town International Jazz Festival and led the CTIJF Big Band, an ongoing festival project. He has also shared the stage with renowned artists including Caiphus Semenya, Jimmy Dludlu, Errol Dyers, Buddy Wells, Benjamin Jephta, Marcus Wyatt, and George Werner.

His acclaimed debut album, One for HP, showcases his distinctive compositional voice and is available on all major streaming platforms.
