Lecture: Bio-remediation, a solution for the future against pollution and contamination

The Société d’Histoire de Toronto brings to light and introduces the French history of Toronto. Its goal is also to introduce the general history of Toronto in French.

Lecturer: Dio Nkurunziza.

Bioremediation regroups waste management techniques that involve the use of small organisms, microbes, vegetables or some enzymes to remove or neutralize pollutants from a contaminated site. Because bioremediation relies on microbes that live naturally in soil and groundwater, the techniques pose no threat to people or to the environment.

Those techniques are being used to get rid of oil spills, deteriorate asbestos, or even to prevent the spreading of heavy metals in humid environments through their root systems.
